Spiritual Care Services at Beth Israel Deaconess Plymouth (BID Plymouth) provides interfaith spiritual care and support for patients, their families, visitors, volunteers and staff. Spiritual Care promotes care of the whole person, including their physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. Spiritual Care Services strives to foster a spirit of kindness and compassion within the hospital and in the greater community.
A full time Director of Spiritual Care Services/Interfaith Chaplain ministers at BID Plymouth during the week. Several local clergy members volunteer to cover emergencies after hours if a patient or family does not have their own clergy to contact. Patients may receive visits from the clergy of their own faith tradition at all times. The Interfaith and Catholic Chaplains will contact a patient’s personal clergy person upon request. The Interfaith Chaplain coordinates the interfaith volunteers within the hospital.
A part-time Coordinator of Catholic Pastoral Services/ Catholic Chaplain is in the hospital during the week. This position is funded by the Archdiocese of Boston. The Catholic Chaplain visits with patients and families, and coordinates the schedule of the local Catholic priests that visit the hospital on a rotating basis. The Catholic Chaplain coordinates the Eucharistic Minister volunteers who visit within the hospital to offer Holy Communion.
There are two interfaith chapel/meditation rooms within the hospital. These places of peace are on 3 East and 3 South. They are open 24 hours a day and offer a quiet space to everyone.
